Probably not, actually. But you WILL be at their mercy.
Smart power is always as subtle as it can be and moves
into vulgar displays only when there is no other way.
A key to lasting power is concealing from the governed
that they are being manipulated. Another key it the old
carrot and stick approach. When they do as you wish, they
have materially comfortable lives. When they need to be
oved this way or that, conditions are set such that they
by some means get the picture that moving this way or that
will regain them their now lapsing comforts. Voila!
Movement!
When power is sufficiently consolidated, people are very
very easy to make do almost anything you want them to if
your techniques are carefully chosen and executed.

So ask yourself: to what end? Very little in the political
arena happens by mere chance. The economy is the absolute
thick of politics.
