Well, while this isn't the best metal scrounge of the year, it certainly
made my day. There's a scrap metal recycling place near me that's a
treasure chest of stuff in a greasy, funky, low down sort of way. Last
Saturday, I found five tool/equipment stands there. These are the kind that
are usually home-made with plow discs and steel pipe. Here they were, all
done, with a much larger base than a plow disc - cost 20 cents a pound!! I
also found a stack of tool steel pieces, just the right size and thickness
for smithin' magician dies.

I notice that the responses to this vise question have many people talking
of scrounged iron.I was out to the valley with the wife today and we stopped
at a farm /nursery where she bought a few plants.while this went on i went
wandering around the sheds out back ran into the farmer ,we got talking and
i left there with a five gallon pail full of old horseshoes.dont know what
ill do with them yet but who knows when you might need em.How about some
ramblings on you alls best metal/tool scrouge of the year.
P S he gave all his old smithing tools to the lad that shoes his
horses.
