[TheForge] Post Vise Spring

Actually, I was poking fun, Standard auto leaf spring would not be a
good choice anyway since it is too wide, and generally two thick as
well. A new post vise spring from centaur is actually made for the
Vaughn vise. I would expect after waiting for it to arrive ( possibly
from England) it would require further fabrication. Fabricating one
from a die spring available from your local machinist supply is probably
the quickest option. Secure it to the vise with soft iron wire, hose
clamp or other for the short term. As has been suggested, plain mild
steel will work fine, I have one vise with such a spring now that has
been in service for years. It will take a ste after a while, but I just
hammer it back periodically. You could buy a section of tool steel
from your local machinist supply in the right thickness and width as
well. MSC is a good choice. Metal Mart also carry it as well. You
could also make one in a pinch from a lawn mower blade( have done that
as well). If you don't have a stack of old lawn mower blades, they can
be bought at the local hardware store. Regarding assumptions, any
number are required to answer any question. I.E. that you have the
skills to execute the suggestion, that you have the equipment, so why
not that you have the nmaterials? Another assumption tha I generally
make is that no one on this list is paid for their help/contributions,
so I generally refrain from chastising them on their attempts to help.
Bad manners, are different matter though. I didn't take offense at
your reply though, just commenting on the tone.
