I got interested, I admit partly due to the name, and did a little research.

I am sure some of you, Mike Spencer at the least, already know this, but I
was impressed to find that A&D was the oldest extant mechanical manufacturer
in England, Bellows maker to his majesty the King, Blacksmith tool builder
since 1625!
Also manufacturer of cars, motorcycles, buses, and all manner of industrial
objects.
Found a very nice, almost new looking 100lb A&D selfcontained hammer for
sale in Malaysia. A 57 pounder recently sold in Canada. Several for sale in
the UK, and one in use by a blacksmith in Australia.
There appears to be a recent book out, "Alldays & Onions, a brief history".

So I will scoff no more at the funny name- this is definitely one of the
lynchpins of our industrial heritage.
