Dear Larry,
I have designed and built more than 400 air hammers with bolt-on dies (two
5/8" bolts per die), and they work very well, even on a 250 lb. hammer.
They don't come loose if tightened adequately, and will not loosen suddenly,
you will hear and see the die clattering up and down before it comes off. If
you are concerned about the cast iron, you could use insert threads which
are very strong.
