I wear boots virtually all the time. I had a pair of shiny black FBI
shoes that I got in 1959 but they wore out in 1988 and I haven't
replaced them.
About 15 years ago I hit on Canadian made Matterhorn boots.
Comfortable, durable, Vibram soles, other details that I liked. Last
about 3 years. I use felt insoles during the third year. Last pair
was ca. C$200 -- about US$130.
Company was borged by J. B. Goodhue but they were still Canadian
boots. About two years ago JBG moved production to China, then
terminated the line except for supplying one large corporation (a
telco maybe?) for their own employees. Now I have to depend on my
cobbler's connections with the trade to get a pair diverted from that
non-retail stream once in awhile. I've only worn my newest
Chinese-made pair a couple of times (dress shoes, dontcha know?). They
look identical to the Canadian version but feel a little different.
Time will tell if I have to start looking for another line.
