I cut the teeth cold, using a chisel, similar to the technique used for
hand cutting file teeth.  I had the blade blank clamped between two blocks
of steel or wood (don't recall which) and backed up with a steel block. 
This gives a sharp point to the tooth and a bit of a side edge.  For what
it''s worth, the chisel was made of wrought iron with a carburized cutting
edge - was chewed up a bit, but lasted long enough for this one saw blade.
