Thank to all who have answered the Fly Press question. As far as what type
(fly press vs screw press) I was looking at the ones offered by Old Wolrd
Anvils. Based on the discusion, perhaps that would be a screw press. I am
interested in expanding my work to include arcitectural peices such as
railings. It seems like a press of some form would do well at taking a piece
of sya 1/4 x 2" and giving it a pleasing contour for the top caps on
railings. I also occasionally make pattern welded knife blades and would think
that a press would be a cleaner way to weld the billet. I do have a 50lb
Little Giant that is great for drawing out, but it doesn't seem like the most
controlled method for die forging.
Going back to the rialing concept, I can see something similar to a top
fuller & a bottom swage with the desired contours. On the other hand IO
would hate to buy a tool that can only do a few jobs well and would like to
know what other tasks such a press would excell at.
Thanks again
John
