The Great Plains Blacksmith Association usually charges participants $50
each for our workshops. We usually cover the expence of getting a
demonstrator to come in for a weekend and misc. supplies. In Fact, we have
a Workshop coming up in April with Allison Finn. I believe there is a limit
of 20 participants. So if any in the region is interested, here's the info:
The Great Plains Blacksmith Association
is proud to present a 2 day Workshop by Alison Finn.
We would like to invite everyone to see and learn from a very talented
blacksmith. The cost for the workshop will be $50 for both days, April 5th
and 6th, 8 to 4:30 both days. This is a hands on workshop. She will
demonstrate techniques and the participants will then attempt to
duplicate the technique. Bring your own tools and equipment. We'll supply
the coal. Let us know ASAP if you need to borrow any equipment.
Pre-Registration would be very helpful and appreciated. You may send your
registration to:

> My question is somewhat closely related to the current topic. I would like
to direct it specifically at those who hold workshops or classes on 'your'
piece of real estate. What I would like to know is: What do you pay
yourselves for hosting an event? This is AFTER you deduct the associated
costs.
> Given a sample cost of 175$ per student for a weekend workshop (say 6
students)- how much should go towards:
> 1. Steel
> 2. Fuel
> 3. Insurance
> 4. Instructor's time
> 5. Assistants' time
> 6. Building costs; rent
> 7. ???anything else???
>
> The consumables should be fairly easy to figure out. I'm mainly concerned
with putting a dollar figure on the instructors time and the building
overhead and, oh yeah whatever's left to stuff in my pocket...
> Looking at the Abana site I see 'national' demonstrator's fees that run
from 100 to 1000 dollars for a session.
