And there's another related product -- another member of the glycol
family -- that wood butchers use to keep things like solid turned
newel posts from checking that would probably do as well or better.
Probably can be found on the net, else in Fine Woodworking or FIne
Homebuilding.
But a word of warning about ethylene glycol (anti-freeze): don't
leave it open where your dogs or cats (or, for that matter I suppose,
goats, steers or what have you) can get at it. It has a sweetish
taste and, apparently, an appealing odor. Cats and especially dogs
will drink it. It causes odd behavior, seizures, permanent
neurological damage or death, depending on how much they drink.
