[TheForge] Cleaner for mild steel

Greetings,

I'm cladding  interior surfaces with mild steel plate.  The client wants 
the mill scale intact.  I'm buying plate that has been exposed to 
moisture as it sits stacked up in the warehouse so it is patterned, or 
marked by the moisture.  This he likes.  I'm trying, to no avail, to 
remove what I think is mild grease and oil from handling.  I've tried 
alcohol, mineral spirits, turpentine, acetone degreaser.  Acetone and 
degreaser are changing the color of the mill scale, the others are 
helping but not fully getting it done.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.
