I just went to the House.gov site, put in my zip code and brought up my
Rep's pages. there was a search engine there to let me pull up HR 806. I
then sent Congressman Dreier the following.
Comments:
As an Artist Blacksmith, who produces works of art using steel and bronze
and copper, I'd like to ask for your support on H.R. 806. Since the 60's, a
work of art I produce with a market value of thousands of dollars, could be
donated to a museum or other non-profit entity by it's purchaser for a tax
credit of it's full market value. If I, on the other hand, made such a
donation, I would be allowed to deduct only the cost of the original
materials, perhaps a $100. H.R. 806 addresses this inequity, and while
not, perhaps the perfect solution, does work to even out the playing field,
providing more incentive to the artists to make their art more easily
experienced by all the public rather than just collectors. Please give the
matter your consideration. Thank you, Michael Horgan
