hello;
the problem with drilling orifice holes is that there is no guarantee
that the hole does not have burrs and is at 90 degrees.
granted if 1/8 inch schedule 80 pipe ((red or yellow brass) or black
pipe) is not available adaptation/modification may be the only option.
another option would be to use an 1/8 inch pipe cap use a number 3 drill
and tap the hole for 1/4-28 threads.
a completely different approach would be for those who have 1/8
schedule 80 red or yellow brass or black pipe available to them, to
volunteer to make the 3-1/2 inch pipe nipples and distribute them to
those in their regional area. this could be by state, or geographical
location, i.e. upper midwest, lower midwest, southwestern usa, new
england, pacific northwest, etc..
sidenote:
at some point we really need to restart work on ceramic nozzles.
a high alumina percentage refactory ceramic would be best.
an alternate refactory would be silicon carbide.
