Another way to go is to get some lamp parts. I found a coupler 
that had 1/8 pipe threads and a bushing that brought 1/8 pipe 
thread down to 1/4-28. The coupler is not a true pipe thread in 
that it's not tapered, but it fits on a 1/8 nipple really well and 
some silver solder will seal any mismatch. And it's a pretty thin 
wall, so it doesn't interfere with gas flow.
