This question was asked during the
original project. I believe that the
decision was to make them new or in the
condition that they would have been in
when submerged. Now your only question
was the saw part of the tool kit or
something brought in for repair or a
scrap taken in payment for some other
task.
I'd go for a part of the tool kit, and
like it would have been at six months
old. A random time, but if a tooth is
broken or an unintentional ding gets
into the blade, it doesn't ruin the
project.
If you had the opportunity to see the
project at the ABANA conference it
looked like the smith had just unpacked
it to set up shop for the day.
