There was a guy somewhere around here who used to make wreath clips
back, as I get it, in the 50s. Funeral homes use them to clip wreaths
to caskets during the funeral, then remove and keep them. But they
eventually got misplaced or broken. So every so often, he'd get a
funeral home guy in, asking for a half a dozen clips. Got fed up with
the boredom and the bother.
Allegedly, he spent a day or two with some motors, gear boxes, cams
and widgets and built a machine that would reel metal off a spool,
shape and snip off a clip every few seconds. Turned it on, let it run
for a day, put it on the shelf where it remained for (ever? til he
retired? decades?) and never made a wreath clip again because he had
approximately a truckload on hand.
Heard the tale, never found the guy, probably dead now. Good yarn.
