The ultimate result is pretty much indistinguishable
from such a case. The only factor that is taken into
account is the bottom line in simplistic contexts.
The subtly hidden costsand benefits are almost never
considered because I suspect the typical shareholder
is either incapable of understanding them, or unwilling
to, because to do so would prove inconvenient to their
	quarterly bottom line.

Not cutting cost 'X' because of some non-quantifiable
"touchy-feeley" factor typically doesn't go over well
with share holders that care only for greater "efficiency"
(read "dividends"). People want simple solutions, which
is why religion is so popular. And of course, cutting
this group or that is always easy when you're not the
one feeling the pinch. And saying that it is "only
business and not personal" is a typical mechanism used
to justify wrecking the lives of people without losing
any sleep or looking bad to one's neighbors.
