Actually, according to the World Features Syndicate his net worth was equal
to 5 million dollars of today's dollar value. According to the conversions
I've found that places his 1799 (year he died) value at about $345,000.
That doesn't quite make him our first millionaire.
Also consider that he served as the Commander of our armies for no pay (at
a value of $48,000 in 1776 dollar values), and helped supply the troops out
of his own personal holdings (to a tune of $5,000 per year), which in
todays dollars would be the equivalent of spending over 1 million dollars
for the privilege of serving our country.
