[TheForge] Digital camera (Yak)

The Sony DSC-F717 will focus in complete darkness.
With the infrared emitters, you can even see in the dark through the camera.
About a month ago I was outside and saw a shadow moving about 10 feet from
where I was standing. I grabbed my camera, set it to night mode, looked through
it only to find out the shadow was a skunk, which seemed interested in getting
a closer look at my camera.
Ability to focus in the dark was high on my list of criteria, and the Sony is
superior in that regard. The fact that it also comes with a true flash hotshoe,
the sharpest lens in its class (Carl Zeiss), several exposure modes (including
manual, aperture priority and shutter priority), and spot metering were all
factors in my decision to get this camera.
When I bought my camera, the Canon EOS Rebel wasn't out.
Were I buying a camera today, from what I've seen of it, I think it might be
tops on my list, even though I've been a diehard Nikon user for years.
I'd definitely be considering a digital SLR with interchangeable lenses, but
I've been involved with photography for many years and am most likely not the
typical buyer. I was just using my camera to photograph furniture with studio
strobes last week, and I couldn't have done that with a camera lacking the
hotshoe.
I also wouldn't mind having another digital in the 3 meg range small enough to
slip into my pocket and carry with me at all times.
(The people I work with often put themselves in embarrassing situations and I
really regret not being able to document some of them.)

One problem with my camera is that it doesn't do well in low light. A
camera with a focusing light seems like a good idea to me.
