Jay brings up a good point: rechargeable batteries are a must, unless
you want to spend lots of money on batteries. Standard or non-standard,
rechargeable.
I have a Nikon Coolpix 995, which I like very much. It uses a
non-standard battery which is fairly expensive from Nikon, but the
camera has been out long enough (not too long these days) for
aftermarket batteries to show up, cheaper and with more capacity.
One problem with my camera is that it doesn't do well in low light. A
camera with a focusing light seems like a good idea to me.
