[TheForge] Abana Tape rentals

I agree that the tape rental fee is cheap, especially compared to the cost
of attending a conference, or trying to learn at home without
a teacher. I have found that the blacksmithing tapes that are most
important to me, are the conferences that I attended and watched the
demonstration.

I read the problem that Roger Degner had with the UMBA blacksmith tapes to
DVDs. He reported a problem with DVD+ vs DVD - format. Roger (
again) turned a light switch on for me. Like learning to play Poker, I
understand more quickly when it costs me money. This past
Fall, I got a "factory reconditioned" DVD + writer and burned a few
dvd's from old VCR tape. Store bought video DVDs seem to work fine with
all the DVD players.. However, my home made DVDs worked fine on the
computer's DVD, but didn't work at all on the TV Set's DVD.

At the Thanksgivings day sale, my son bought a DVD player that would
play / would work for either DVD + RW and / or DVD - RW formats. My
home made "dud" DVD's worked just fine on his DVD player. . I tried to
read up on the difference, but gave up, and figured it was something like
turning the right key for the right car's ignition system. One works, one
doesn't. The prices are falling, so more of us will be switching to DVD's

Someone on the rope list said that he would be making rope out of all his
old VCR tape. I am quite a ways off from doing that.
