As far as pulse arc is concerned you need a square wave , High Frequency 
type machine.
With Lincoln welders there is usually a dial control (it is built into 
the control board).
With the "True Blue" at least the not so new ones, there is an external 
pulse control system.
It looks like a calculator from 1970. Thermal Arc or thermodyne has the 
external controller
also. If you own a machine  but don't have the control system  you  will 
need to contact a dealer
to manipulate your settings. And that's all I know for now. I hope this
