[TheForge] burner question

To All,
Yes Shannell is right, the Modified Side Arm Burner works on the Bernoulli
effect just like the Reil burner and the T-rex burner . All have the shape
of a Hour Glass this helps to draw the air in better and also help the hold
the flame out on the edge of the burner tip. This is why a lot of burners
with out the burner flare on the end have trouble with a steady flame and
popping because it is trying to burn up inside of the burner tube instead
of on the end of the flare. If you look at the inside of a carburetor it
also has the hour glass shape were the gas and the air mix. Some are able
to run with out the flare because the back pressure in the forge helps
stabilize the flame. The original side arm burner designed by Jerry Frost
used a standard tee instead of a reducing tee( this gives you the bell
reducer effect on the inlet side ) on the Modified Side Arm Burner and it
had the problem that you could not draw enough air in to produce a good and
stable burn. I saw the burners that Jerry Hoffman built at the SOFA
conference and he said that they will not burn correctly outside of the
forge. He is also are using a .023 contact tip instead of a .035 thru .045
like you can on the Modified Side Arm Burner and others. So the
performance of these will not be the same , but the forges that he is using
them in are small.
I have posted a new design on my Side arm Burner page of a mini side arm
burner that also use a .023 tip far smaller forges and there is information
about the Modified side Arm burner also. The url is
