Sandblasting is a nasty business. Forget about oil as being the big culprit, while it does pose a health risk -- it is the fine dust particles that are a killer. When sand disintegrates in the sandblasting process, the airborne silicate, if it is not filtered out, lodges in anyones lungs nearby. Long-term exposure is fatal.
My cousin owned a sandblasting and coating business for over 30 years before silicosis claimed his life at age 59. Ignoring airborne silicate can prove fatal. If you sandblast, use breathing protection.
Dave, Many years ago when I did a lot of sandblasting I was told that oil in your air supply could leed to Plurosey-sp?. It is an inflated situation of your air sacs in your lungs. Using an air supplied mask would cover for this need..........
