I was going to experiment with mixing my own insulating castable 
refractory  more or less as an experiment.  However, I do believe 
that insulating refrac. is fairly more expensive than the regular.

Also I was planning, but didn't do it, to have a hybrid arrangement 
with castable on the inside and a blanket on the outside.  I like the 
way Frosty was talking about doing it cuz the inside castable part 
doesn't really need an outside liner to it other than as a mold to 
form the castable.  Then the dried castable could be wrapped with 
insulating blanket to provide more insulation and perhaps have a 
shield around it for protection.
