Rust, (and many other finishes), have been discussed at length many times on the 'artmetal' discussion group.  Many solutions, many methods.  Some take minutes, some hours, some days.   I would suggest you visit    artmetal.com    and look around
their archives categories.  You will find what method of rusting works best for you as well as much other useful and interesting techniques.  You could also subscribe to the discussion group for awhile, or longer, and ask the question there and
someone would send you their saved recipes.;
