My wife (who is an RN) has seen people at the ER with painful, red,
inflamed eyes as a result of watching their whatsit be welded from a
distance of several feet or a few yards.  My recollection is that it
was an hour or so of exposure.  Symptoms developed several hours after
leaving the welding shop.
