Those aren't protecting you from IR.
Only the narrow wavelength didymium filters out.

I picked up a pair of blue didymium lenses that fit over regular eye
glasses, and fold up out of the way when not in use. These are what the
mixers use to look into the ladle of molten steel when testing and mixing
the alloys.


I bought them from the US Steel safety store and if I remember right they
were about 15 bucks.  


They don't have the gold coating and they are only about  0.75{quot}
x 1.5{quot}  (about half the size of regular eyeglass lenses)
When when you look into the white hot areas of the fire you can see all
the detail...
