Channel: The grease is not necessary or advised. You can effectively
shrink fir a ring to an axle by heating the metal ring to roughly 325F and
driving it on. It will contract as it cools. This is how ring gears are
fitted to fly wheels in cars. The wooden axle must be dimensionally true
and smooth and be made of a hard wood for best results.
