[TheForge] 36 diameter ring

Jerry writ:
"out of 3/4" plywood, two circles out of 1/2" is better. Attach the die
spaced above the bench so it hits the center of the stock 1" in this case.
Weld a stop..."

So Jerry, would you use Weldwood cement for that weld? (;^) And I believe
an even heat on 10' of stock might be room temperature. Not to mention
we're dealing with a man that thinks it's a compromise to light his coal
fire with a match! Lightning strike or a coal from the perpetual flame or,
second, flint and steel are preferred. He might hand saw a 36" dia. circle
out of plywood he made after laminating (with glue rendered from roadkill
racoons and skunks) veneers he skived off with his draw knife. Ludite Bob
is still looking for Fred Flintstones car. :)

After all that here's the easy way.

Get out your sabre saw and cut a 36" circle (die) out of 3/4" plywood, two
circles out of 1/2" is better. Attach the die spaced above the bench so it
hits the center of the stock 1" in this case. Weld a stop about 1/4" from a
convenient point on the die. Heat the stock reasonably evenly then quickly
drop it between the die and the stop and wrap it.

The plywood won't burn enough to effect anything if you make reasonable
haste. Also, two 1/2" dies are better because you can space between them and
get an even bend easier.

As has been mentioned:

First, the stock allowance for getting a forge welded hoop to come out on
diameter is nada.

Second and more importantly, make the hoop small and draw out to diameter.

Alternative joins: rivet, collar, forge braze, vise grips. <grin>

Wrought iron is.
