The irony of the whole scrap yard convo right now is very amusing. I =
spent most of the day loading about 250 cubic yards of scrap metal =
everything into 50 yard dumpsters for the local recycling station. The =
really love my clamshell front jaws on my JCB 210S extendahoe. The =
brits really have built a nice machine, I flogged it for eight straight =
hours loading junk, and marveling at how much of it would be usefull to =
someone. 200 lawnmowers, mos tof whcih had running motors, but the =
decks were rusted out or handles were broken. Tanks, all shapes sizes =
and varieties. 13 ASO's, disappointed there wasn't a single jewel in =
the rough in the whole bunch. Pipe, eletric motors, wheelchairs with =
motors, gears, sprockets, (anyone need a golf green roller)...
Owning several casting furnaces, I have a keen eye, for aluminum, copper =
and brass. By the end of the day we had salvaged over 7000 pounds of =
copper, brass and aluminum they gave us for free. To boot, they got =
charged 65.00 an hour for the two ground grunts, I had spotting and =
loading the bucket. I paid one of my other grunts to simply pull the =
non ferrous scrap and load it in our dump trailer. I think this load =
will go to the recycler, at an average of .65 a pound that should make =
the days wages form my scrap puller you think?....
Among our treasures is my eye for magnesium, lets just say the after =
hours fun was much better than the whole days work, as we lit lawn mower =
castings on fire, and threw them over the side of the local jetty to =
watch the white smoke bubble from the ocean, and the bright blinding =
light burn under water and light up hundreds of feet of water =
surrounding it.
Just don;'t tell the DEQ.........
Enjoy your scrap scrounging and don't forget one womans trash is mostly =
likely any mans treasure.
