They are indeed welded on.  Hadn't thought to check the steel in the reins-
expect I will eventually. I had just kinda figured that the weren't designed
to deal with much weight- they're pretty thin, and it seemed to me that
whatever you'd use them for, it couldn't be very heavy, or you'd lose the
advantage of the length in trying to deal with the leverage disadvantage.
Someone suggested that they might have been used to move stuff in a heat
treat situation.

Regardless, I like them ;-) Might not have much use for them with what I
usually do, but I think they'll work well to advertise my travelling smithy-
and still be available if I do find a use for them ;-)
