Another way is to router out a section of the stump that the anvil will fit
in.
I set my stump in the ground with 4"x4" treated timbers attached to bottom to
give me a wide stance base in the dirt. Then I sat my anvil on top and traced
a line around the base and then used a router to cut it out. The depth was
about 3/4 of an inch. I cut a piece of rubber mud flap and put in the bottom
and then made brackets to fit over the base and put thin rubber under the
brackets and screwed it down. Have not had any problems with it. I have a
future 2 anvil. Steel top and aluminum base. That is the reason for the
straps with the rubber so not to scar up the base. The anvil weighs in at
100 pounds
