Well, that's what's kinda funny- it is, and it isn't. For the period I'm
striving to recreate, steel/iron was a fairly scarce material. smiths were,
themselves, respected and valued members of the community, and were often
made immune to many of the risks and penalties that others were subject to-
after all, dead smiths couldn't make you a sword, and PO'd smiths wouldn't
make you a good one, and could even curse it for you.
But, because of the relative scarcity of the material, a smith wouldn't use
up his stock in trade for personal things, where wood, cheap and plentiful,
would do. so, I'm finding myself expanding my carpentry skills in order to
expand my smithing abilities ;-)
