The best way to provide support for an anvil is...and i can't take
credit for this... to trace and cut a pattern of the footprint of the
anvil in 1/2" plate and then weld three legs at a 15 deg angle on the
bottom of the plate. Weld two legs forward(horn) and one aft for the
tripod. this allows the smith to stand next to the anvil (generally one
foot is partly under
the anvil when working.) you will find that you stand up as opposed to
being bent over while working. it really makes a big difference. also
the tripod eliminates the need to level the anvil. this info comes from
uri hofi via tom clark.
