Mike: You are on the right track. Check he mating surfaces of the dies
first followed by the dovetailed slots they ride in. You deviation MAY be a
combination of both surfaces being out of true. The dies can be cut on a
milling machine readily. Not knowing what type of hammer you have, I can't
say how the truing of these surfaces may be done.
Check the grooves of your sow(bottom) block for any burrs on the sides as
well as the riding surfaces, as well as unusual scuffing or wear. Look for
ANY imperfection on either the dies or their mounting fixtures, in all
dimensions. Such imperfections will prevent smooth mating of the
die-to-block surfaces which could prevent proper seating of the dies. I
suspect your problem lies there.
