[TheForge] Off Topic / satellite internet connection / YAK

Dave:

I have starband, have had it for about a year. I was in the same
situation as you.
no cable, no isdn, etc, and no hope of it showing up in the forseeable
future. In fact,
at times I couldn't even get a dial-up connection at all.
In any case, this works, downloads are great, page loads are good, email
is adequate.
I would think that downloading email would smoke but it doesn't seem any
faster than
the dial-up I have in town. Uploads are about the same as dial-up.
 Satellite is not as
fast or hassle-free as DSL or the others (I just tested my connection
at www.bandwidthplace.com
and it was 395 and 467-- it's not always that good), but for me it is
the only option and tho' it is
overpriced, my year contract is up and I plan to keep it. In fact, I am
investigating switching
my network to wireless. We have three clients that share the connection.
If you have any more questions I might help with, feel free to email me
direct.
