[TheForge] Air Hammer Slides.....

As I was building a trolley for my new swing arm crane today, I marveled =
at the fact that no one uses cam follower bearings for the hammer head =
on a air hammer.... As always my question is why?

They are relatively cheap, and will roll on about any surface, they =
could be easily pre-loaded to remove slop, and 6 units would provide =
service for life, with very little if any resistance? They come in all =
sizes and shapes, and most are complete with grease zerks.

Any insight?

A picture of the nw corner of my shop reveals the new 1000# swing arm =
crane although it does not yet have the trolley affixed, nor does it =
have the 300# of counter weight attached to the aft of the load beam.

Also in the picture is my new hydraulic press frame, It has a single =
cylinder to be mounted on the let like a standard punch type hydraulic =
press, the center will have a moving beam driver by two 3.5" hydraulic =
cylinders so it can be used for shearing, and sheet metal forming as =
well as die cutting work, and making forging dies. The single cylinder =
will be a 7" Diameter by 18" extend with an exertion force of about 57 =
tons... Guaranteed to break the press I think.
