Hi Dan,

The steel should be taken to a high polish prior to etching, obviously.  =
After etching, you can oil it with some light machine oil, or use a very =
fine wire wheel to close up any raised grain that may have formed that =
imparts a rough surface.  Burnishing with a wire wheel will impart a =
softer, warmer (for lack of a better term) texture to the steel.  You =
cannot go hog wild with this, nor should you use a stiff wheel.  Very =
soft and a light touch.
