[TheForge] Golden mean

Golden mean is a mathematical constant. It is somewhat arbitrary, =
though the mathematical definition is in fact rigorous and given by:
(1+Sqrt(5))/2
This works out to approximately 1.618.
This value is used in the construction of geometric objects, most =
commonly rectangles, to define the ratio of the width to the height. =
This ration is considered by some "authorities" to be the most =
aesthetically pleasing proportion. To give a simple example, a =
rectangle that is of golden proportions with a height of 1 unit would =
have a width of 1.618 units. It is as simple as that.
As for being universally the most aesthetically pleasing, that assertion =
is a bit overstated. As with anything else in this life, the assertion =
is predicated upon context. In some circumstances I am sure the =
assertion is true, and in others it is not, beauty being in the eye of =
the beholder.
There are several constructs that derive out of the golden mean. A =
search of the web will reveal several hundred sites.
Cheers.

Subject: [TheForge] Golden mean
Can any one give me, or point me in the right direction where I can get
a simple explaination of the golden mean, and how to draw it.
Thanks in advance
John C.
