If my memory serves me correctly, there are three lasers of varying =
frequencies. The clear, light sensitized acrylic reacts at the point of =
intersection of the three beams.

There are other rapid prototyping processes. Others I have seen are =
stereo
lithography in which a tank is filled with a special liquid a laser =
travels
around and solidifies portions of the plastic when it is done you have a
solid model. There is also a process where a tiny nozzle extrudes a =
stream
of plastic that is laid up in layers ( imagine drawing with a tube of
toothpaste). Another I have heard of but have not seen involves a =
machine
that cuts out pieces of paper and glues them up layer by layer, =
producing
something like a plywood.
