Bill and I don't know what it is specifically, but here is what I would use it for. If I had a vise that was adjustable to different shapes and bends of stock, I would use it to hold my metalsmithing stakes, the ones I use to form primarily sheet metal (raising stakes, repouss� stakes, etc...). They are difficult to hold steady in a regular vise. -Kirsten
