Bob, Pattern making involves holding odd shaped items in tool
design, casting forms, etc. The ability to hold odd shapes tightly while
working is the major attribute of a pattern makers vice. Having jaws with
interchangeable pins, wedges, flat against round, etc will yield this type
of clamping.
