I and others have converted old 100lb propane tanks to make a nice tumbler.
I suppose an old hot water tank or something similar would work. Most would probably agree that if they had to make another one, they would've made it LONGER. To remedy my length anxiety I cut the bottom out of two old tanks (obvious cautions apply) and butted them together. Six foot curtain rods? No problem...
A large piece of angle \/ will act as a trough for the tanks to sit in while you do your welding.
Of course, you can violate your wifes' old dryer but if you ever want to do bigger stuff, you'll be glad you made a dedicated one.
Tumblers are great for developing that 100 year-old hand worn feel that just can't be created w/ a wire brush. You'll be glad you did it.

Don't laugh to soon. I have an old washing machine sitting outside my shop
looking for a job. Now I really need to see yours
