Just like painting an airplane.
1. Etch with a buffered product made for al. Rinse very well with clean
water.
2. Conversion coating with an Alodine product. Again rinse very very well.
Will leave a yellow tinted surface.
3. Primer with a self etching primer; hopefully one that has some corrosion
inhibitors in it.
4. Top coat within time limit specified of putting on primer.
All this stuff is available at good auto paint store. Try to stay with the
same paint family and system so the primer and top coat are compatible.
Never use any steel wool, steel wire brush, or abrasives that have Al Oxide
in them, they will implant the seeds of future corrosion.
Watch out if you are using any two part paint or primer systems, especially
the catalyzed urethanes, you need a fresh air mask to spray these (not a
acarbon mask) and do not let the mist get on your skin.
