[TheForge] Columbian vice question

Hi,

I'm refurbishing a 5 1/4 "  post vise and have a couple of questions.  On
the moveable jaw it has the #  817 (or 917, its hard to tell) about 2" down
and then right above the screw is the # 70.  Any ideas what those numbers
mean? There is some faint diamond cross hatching on the face of one jaw. The
mounting plate has the letter C in a sunken triangle but the word Columbian
isn't on the mounting plate like it is on another Columbian I have,  and the
# 3 is on the underside of the mounting plate.  I'm wondering how old it is
and especially what sort of iron or steel its made  of.  Thanks for any
opinions.
