Dang (and even double-dang) is right! Those places should've been named
National Treasures and preserved!
There used to be one up in Cleveland OH near E.79th on Broadway.
You couldn't walk a straight line through the place on a bet.
Messy? You can't handle messy!:)
But you could find one of damned near anything in there someplace. All you
had to do was ask and the proprietor would tell you whether they had one,
where it was and how many levels down you'd have to move stacked bins to
reach it. (Usually: "Over along the left side of the back wall, about sixth
bin right of the metric drills." or something like that. You could learn the
true meaning of fear if he said it was in the basement!:)
In this place they kept the valve packing material right next to the
Nicholson brace-bit-sharpening files, behind the rolls of wire mesh. :)
I keep hoping it's still there since I haven't been up that way in a while,
but last time I was, I couldn't find the place. Hope it was just my bad
memory!
