ANYTHING GOES is not quite accurate as I mentioned in my previous
reply. As many non-Jewish artists and crafts people have entered the
market making Chanukah menorahs, there are more and more that are not
traditionally "kosher".
It really is a matter of which branch of the Judaism we're talking
about. For Orthodox and Conservative Jewish congregations, they only
recognize menorahs with the 8 branches at the same height and the 9th
either elevated or set off to the side, usually the right side.
Reform and other liberal sects of Judaism are less rigid on the designs.
They certainly don't have to be blessed for any application, and the
pigskin reference would be more of a Muslim aversion. Jews just don't
eat pork usually, except if they are liberal.
