Make a moveable welding table
A stable but moveable welding table is an asset in any shop. Here is how Shop Talk members would design one.
1. Start with a piece of 3'x3' by 1 1/2" steel plate that weighs about 550 pounds. This is sturdy enough to be used as an anvil and bending platform.
2. Mount a vise on it possibly using a receiver arrangement such as a Reese hitch on a pickup bumper. That way, you can remove the vise if it is in the way.
3. Mount it on four casters, two fixed and two swivel, mounting the swivel casters 3/8" shorter than the fixed wheels.
4. To level the table, fix a farm implement jack to the table leg of each swivel caster, raising each jack enough to level the table when it is in position.
5. Mount fold-down handles on the sides to grasp when you want to move the bench.
