What's UHMDP?  I was thinking of just making some mild steel inserts since 
I doubt that I'd be using it for any heavy work or for work that I'd have 
to hold extra tight.  Or maybe get some 'soft' inserts for this vise since 
I have other vises (not to mention vices) that have hard jaw inserts.

I have a VersaVise on one bench that I love.  It mounts in two different 
planes and can pivot/rotate from either position.  This is the most 
versatile vise that I have.  It's not heavy, but is great for filing too.
